Steve McCurry's work inspired me because he shows that photography is more than taking a nice picture. His use of color, emotion, and composition helps tell powerful stories about people and cultures around the world. After studying his work, I want to focus more on capturing meaningful moments in my own photography.
I enjoyed your presentation about Joel Sartore and the Photo Ark project. I think you explained his work really well and made it easy to understand why his photography is so important. I liked how you talked about his use of black and white backgrounds, studio lighting, and eye-level angles because it showed how those choices make the animals the main focus. You also did a good job connecting his work to conservation and explaining that his photos are meant to make people care about protecting endangered animals and not just admire beautiful pictures. I think your presentation included ideas from Chapter 4 by explaining composition, lighting, camera angles, and the purpose behind his photographs.
I like your presentation on Steve McCurry. I think you did an amazing job explaining just how his photos capture emotion. I do think you could have gone into more detail about the use of colors. Like in the photo of the man in the boat with flowers, the bright colors of the flowers is complemented well with the blue and green of the water. His focus on people going about their lives fits nicely into the Ethically Evaluative category, but he also manages to make them fit into the Aesthetically Evaluative category as well. I really enjoyed your presentation because it was really easy to follow with pictures and explanations and explained Steve McCurry's work well. I liked how you connected each photo to the emotions and story behind it, especially Afghan Girl. One thing that could make it even better would be explaining a little more about how his use of color and composition helps create those emotions. His photographs made me realize that simple moments can have a big impact. Learning about Steve McCurry has changed the way I think about photography because it showed me that a great photo tells a story, not just captures a scene. I want to keep that in mind when taking my own photos.
